I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine
I wonder how it would feel to be a white student
I hear them talking about my skin color
I see the other eight trembling in fear along with me
I want to be accepted
I am proudly one of the Little Rock Nine

I pretend that what they say doesn't effect me
I feel the segregation between our races
I need support from my fellow race
I worry that school will never be safe
I cry only when i am in the protection of my own home

MLK and Civil Disobedience-

• He fought for equal rights, and organized civil disobedience which allowed people to protest without violence
• Organized Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted 381 days. There reason for this was so no one would ride the buses, and as a result, colored people able to sit where they wanted on the bus, and had the same rights as whites.

Power of the “Mob”

• The larger the group of people participating in the Civil Disobedience the more effective their actions were.

Sit-Ins and Other Protests

• Groups would go into restaurants sit down try to order food, after being told "no" or to leave they continue to sit.
• Mobs would beat them, and they would do nothing but sit there and take it.
• Got arrested for disobeying the laws.
• After the first group protested, another group would go, then another, and another. They continued this cycle, which was very effective.

Looking at my Survey you can see that Whites have more of an opportunity, i surveyed a pretty even amount, mainly Whites and Hispanics. Seeing as a majority of the Hispanics had parents only graduating high school and either one or none graduating college, it shows that Whites have the greater opportunity here. A reason could be because of our Race it's easier to get into college. Considering we were asking if their parents went to high school and college, race, back then was a bigger issue and most likely there wasn't scholarships for what race you were. Therefore White people have a higher percentage in opportunity. However, if you were to interview college students today or adults in their mid 20's you may see the difference in results, because now a days people with a different race are the ones who get scholarships while White people don't have a scholarship for being White.

MLK vs Malcolm X

Yes, I do believe that Martin Luther King and Malcolm X are very different in their ways of methodology . I believe that Martin Luther King was more effect in his way of approaching the Civil Rights Movement, my reason being that he has a more sensible way of approaching it. He showed both sides of the story and looked at the situation from both point of views, which therefore makes the people want to hear about it and understand where you're coming from easier. Where as Malcolm X just said how he felt and what he thought should be changed, he was very blunt with his idea of approaches. For example, one of his quotes says “Be peaceful, be courteous, obey the law, respect everyone; but if someone puts his hand on you, send him to the cemetery.” He believed you should fight back, which doesn't help with making peace. Where Martin Luther believed if someone hits you hug them, and stay strong and be happy no matter what they do or say to you. Martin Luther was more of a peaceful and civil man. People thought very highly of him and still do today, you talk about him all through out your school years and we even have a holiday for him. Where as in Malcolm X you rarely here about him, and don't acknowledge him as much. Martin Luther King had a greater impact on the Civil Rights Movement and our lives today than any other!

A winter day

Waking up on a cold winter day the children, their mother, and their fluffy dog scruffy all rushed to the window to see the beautiful white snow fall for the first time in December. Excited that Christmas is right around the corner they anxiously wait to wake up the next morning and see Santa's sleigh take off from leaving presents under their tree.

"Santa will be here before you know it kids" says the mom with a smile as she pats them on the back with joy!

"I can't wait mom! I hope I get the new sleigh I asked for so I can go play out in the snow with it!"

says the little boy as he sits in awe at all the snow that fell over the night.

"Woof woof!" Barks scruffy from all the excitement.

As they wait with anticipation at the window Daddy is pulling in from work. They can't wait for him to come inside and walk upstairs so they can share their excitement with him and the beautiful view of the snow fall and the bare trees covered in snow!

Sexism

This advertisement that i chose represents sexism because it shows the women cleaning the house, a typical stereotype. Also it shows her teaching her daughter how to clean, knowing that is going to be her job when she is older too. It is sexiest saying women have to do the cleaning and pass it on for generations to come so they can carry on the stereotypical tradition.

Does Media influence the actions of teenagers?

Yes i believe Media has a massive effect on our society today and how the teenagers act because of it. Today teenagers are easily

influenced into doing things, whether it be good or bad things. Our society is a "wanting" society, we want this we want that, we

want to have this we want to look like that. With Media teenagers can get what they want. Most of it can be blamed on all the

advertisements that we see, such as for phones, alcohol, products for your face, clothing etc. Sometimes these advertisments are done by

famous people, which influences us more to get those products. Most of the time we are misguided with false

advertisement, like if you get these Jordan's you will be able to play like Michael Jordan, or it will show a famous person using a face

wash, guiding us to believe we can have flawless skin like them if we use that face wash. However it doesn't stop at advertisements, T.V. shows

could be the most influential on teenagers. Jersey Shore for example, the way they dress, and act, etc. Fist pump started out as a big deal

with the Jersey Shore show and now you'll see kids doing fist pump at dances or wearing T-shirts that say GTL (gym, tan, laundry).

Music can effect teenagers too, with the language used or violence used in the music. Video games is another good example, the violent shooting

games and much more. Teenagers are completely dependent on the Media and electronics, we love to be al caught up in what's

going on what new music there is, what's the new celebrity drama and so on. However we don't see how the Media can ruin us too.

Like Facebook, it's a problem for us teenagers and causes us stress and is a distraction, yet for some reason it's hard for us to

believe we can live with out it. So as you see the Media effects teenagers in so many ways and the list doesn't stop there.

-McCarthy charges Hollywood writers, directors, and producers with Communist propaganda in their films. He goes after the most famous people which is known as the "Hollywood Ten."

Communist "witch hunt" and impact on those accused:

-Invaded the lives of many Americans

Space Race impact on government policies:

-US government created lots of space programs

-Soviet Union beat USA to space with Sputnik 1

Cold War mindset for the US government and public:
-Soviet Union beat us to space in the technology race

Relationship of suburbs, automobiles, and roads:
-1956 was the Interstate Highway Act

-People were now able to live out of the busy cities

-Suburbs that were away from cities, were much quieter

-There were more reliance on cars

Baby Boom:
-Men came home from war to their wives, and they had children together
- Between these times is when it mostly occurred 1946-1960 the peak of it was in 1955
-This was all caused by ending the 20 year Depression and Wartime
-Removal of social and economic restraints that kept people from having families
-It still effects us today by causing current social security issues

Urban-Suburban pattern:
-Inner City = Low income families
-Suburbs = Middle income families
-Further suburbs = High income families

GI Bill:

-Gave loans

-Supported those who served

-Provides education to returning veterans

Expansion of the middle class (why things were affordable):
-Men were home from the war, they started families, which led to the baby boom and then had to move to suburbs
-Suburbs were more affordable, less expensive homes.
-Having a credit card increased the money spent by consumers
-Then there were more consumers due to baby boom
